Your final writing assignment as a farewell to Black rhetorical study--- at least for now. Stay tuned for more details in class. You can write this as a letter to yourself, to a former or current teacher, to a child in your care (who you can have help you with the assignment), or to a sibling/parent/child/spouse/relative (who you can also have help you with the assignment). You can also write this as a story (fact or fiction or both), stream-of-consciousness, or epic poem (as in a long poem.) You might even do a combination of all of the above. If you have a peer who you can write collaboratively with, all the better! Write this together on a google doc, etc. and submit it as one assignment. |
You can watch any ONE film/show below for inspiration. The point here is to think about how these films execute and embody a Black rhetoric of the future and the fantastic!
- Black Panther, Any season/episode from Black Lightning on Netflix (i.e., Thunder/Blackbird is an interesting figure related to Black Feminist Rhetoric... and, plus, the hair and outfits on the show are just EVERYTHING), Brown Girl Begins (available on Hulu), Blade (the first one where there are Black women characters), Brother from Another Planet, Fast Color (available on Hulu), Any episode from Luke Cage on Netflix, An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, Any episode from Raising Dion on Netflix, Sorry to Bother You, Any episode from Lovecraft Country
