• "The Mountaintop" was MLK's last speech (Delivered April 3, 1968 at Mason Temple in Memphis)
• MLK was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968 (the day after this speech)
• King was in Memphis to support African American city sanitation workers who had been on strike since February. Memphis paid black workers much less than white sanitation workers and gave them the worst and most dangerous jobs. White workers were also allowed to stay home---WITH PAY---  during any bad weather; black workers were not.
