Step One: A musical sample
Choose any TWO of these videos to HEAR the music influencing BAM. As you listen, jot down notes and answer the following (please submit at end of class):
- Do you see/feel/hear the influence of Malcolm X? If so, how? If not, why not?
- What connections can you make to anything else that we have read/seen/heard this semester? Does this relate to the Spirituals, Blues, Freedom Songs, Call-and-Response, etc?
- Based on just this sound, how would you define the Black Arts Movement (BAM)?

- Do you see/feel/hear the influence of Malcolm X? If so, how? If not, why not?
- Choose one line in the poem that impacts you in some way. Write that line down. Why did you choose it? What connections can you make to anything else that we have read/seen/heard this semester?
- Based on just this poem, how would you define the Black Arts Movement (BAM)?

- As you define BAM, reference one song/poem from each person's selection in the group.
- When you reference the song/poem, make sure that you include the title and some words/bars
- Your end result should look and feel almost poetic
