In “From the African American Oral Tradition to Slam Poetry: Rhetoric and Stylistics,” by Shawnkeisha Stoudamire, Stoudamire discusses the evolution of Black rhetoric. In her paper she states, “One rhetorical feature of the African American oral tradition that can be found in modern Black vernacular is the high value placed on performance style” (Stoudamire, pg. 58).
